Job Trends in September 2024

This month: Quantum Chips, Ozempic, Google Gemini, and more!

Hello there, and welcome to our fourth monthly Job Trends newsletter!
A lot has happened since our last update: a Reddit experiment, job leads, TikTok insights, and new Trend Alerts.

Most importantly, I've decided to focus more on job data. To keep things clear, I've moved this aspect of the business to my old domain: Fantastic.jobs.

Job.zip will continue to cover everything trend-related, while Fantastic.jobs will now focus on B2B job data for job boards, LLMs, and more.
Respond to this email if your business could use our job data!

Emerging this year!

These roles and industries appeared in jobs for the first time this year:

A high-level, dynamically typed programming language used to create content within the Godot game engine.

An Environmental & Delicensing role involves overseeing the safe and compliant closure or remediation of sites, particularly those in industries like nuclear, where environmental impact is a key concern.

A role in Quantum Chip Design focuses on developing and optimizing the architecture of quantum processors, which are the foundation of quantum computing.

Growing strong in 2024

These Trends are on the way up this year (so far!):

Yes, AI is still hot!
Many LLMs like Google Gemini and ChatGPT are now becoming part of a required skillset in jobs.
With Gemini being a fairly new AI model, it’s one of the fastest-growing job skill requirements this year to date. This job could involve developing and refining AI applications, improving the model's performance across different tasks, and ensuring it can understand and generate human-like responses across various media inputs, such as text, images, and videos.

No-Touch Driver technology is making waves this year as the future of autonomous driving becomes a reality. These systems use advanced sensors, AI, and machine learning to allow cars to navigate without any human intervention, offering a seamless and safe driving experience.
From self-parking to fully autonomous highway driving, the trend is rapidly growing as companies race to perfect this technology. The goal is to reduce accidents, ease traffic congestion, and transform the way we travel. Working in No-Touch Driver tech means being part of an exciting shift towards smarter, more efficient transportation that’s set to revolutionize the auto industry.

GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) is a hormone that's gaining a lot of attention this year, especially due to the popularity of drugs like Ozempic. Originally developed to help manage type 2 diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels, GLP-1-based medications have shown promising results in weight loss, making them highly sought after for treating obesity as well.
This year, they've become a trending topic as more people are recognizing their potential for addressing metabolic health issues. Working in GLP-1 research or therapy development means being at the forefront of medical innovation, where science is directly improving lives by tackling two of today’s biggest health challenges: diabetes and obesity.

The role of a Founding Engineer is becoming increasingly popular as the term gains traction, reflecting a shift in how startups build their teams. Instead of looking for multiple co-founders, many companies are now seeking a technical leader who can drive product development from day one. As a Founding Engineer, you’re integral to the startup’s success—building the core technology, establishing the technical vision, and shaping the company’s future.

What’s next for Job.zip
