What’s new @ Job.zip

This is huge, Trends are now based on the number of employers per role, where each employer with one or more job vacancies for a trend counts as one.

Why? We noticed a trend (hah!) of certain recruitment agencies posting thousands of similar near-duplicative jobs with a slightly different title.
Instead of working around this issue, we looked into including employee data in our trend analysis and found that this approach is much better.
By default, all trends are now based on employer data, but you can still switch to job vacancy data.

Employer Trend is now the default!

What else is new:

  • We’ve increased the number of Trends from just 400 to 1200+!

  • You can now see the top 20 employers for each trend, based on the number of unique jobs.

  • You can now see the top 20 recruiters for each trend, based on the number of unique jobs

  • We’ve made improvements to identifying remote jobs in our database.

  • Logos on the job pages (where available)

  • The job pages now have a fancy loading spinner 😃 

Emerging this year!

These roles and industries appeared in jobs for the first time this year:

A configuration librarian is a specialized role found within IT, software development, and project management. As a configuration librarian, you'll manage and maintain the integrity of a configuration library, ensuring all configuration items (CIs) are accurately documented and up-to-date.

The cross-section of Laboratory Operations and IT. This role typically involves integrating, managing, and optimizing laboratory information systems (LIS) and other informatics tools to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and productivity of laboratory operations.

PowerApps is a Microsoft product to build applications easily with no-code and AI. As an architect, it’s your role to oversee the design, planning, and implementation of these applications.

Growing strong in 2024

These Trends are on the way up this year (so far!):

We’re not off the AI bandwagon just yet (will we ever?). AI agents in particular are a hot topic right now. Numerous startups are popping up every month aiming to build the ultimate AI companion. Some examples of employers in this space are Glean, Cognigy, and Zamp. You can find the top 20 employers right here.

If you work in software you’ve probably heard of Google’s all-in database/authentication/storage platform Firebase. Supabase is an open-source alternative and they’re growing fast. We can see this in the number of open vacancies, with more companies adopting the Postgres-based platform each month.

Revenue = everything as the days of low-interest funding are over. Perhaps as a result, we’re seeing an uptick in Sales leadership roles, with “Chief Sales Officer” jobs increasing month after month.

Fractional jobs, especially on the executive level are a bit of a hype right now. Isn’t ‘fractional’ just a fancy new name for part-time work? Almost, but there are some differences. Fractional employees typically:

  • Work for several companies at the same time

  • Work on a retainer

  • Are experts in their fields. They can quickly make a difference in any type of organization.

We’re excited to see if “fractional” jobs will continue to gain traction in the coming months.

As the population continues to age, we're expecting a sustained trend in jobs related to elder and long-term care

What’s next for Job.zip

My to-do list is absolutely gigantic. Here are some of the priorities for July:

  • Salary Data! We’re hoping to introduce a 5th page of each role containing valuable salary stats

  • Global Search. We want you to be able to navigate anywhere from any page.

  • Improvements to site navigation
