Technology Job Trends in March 2025

This month: Gumloop, Post Quantum Computing, Grok, and more!

Hello there, and welcome to our tenth monthly Job Trends newsletter!

No Job.zip news this month since I’m still spending 90% of my time on the APIs. Big plans, though, stay tuned!

These roles and industries appeared in jobs for the first time during the last 12 months:

Gumloop is a no-code platform designed to build AI-powered workflow automations. It allows users to create complex automations using a visual interface with drag-and-drop nodes, enabling tasks like web scraping, text manipulation, and data enrichment without writing code.

An advanced vision foundation model from Microsoft that uses a prompt-based approach to handle a wide range of vision and vision-language tasks.

An AI-powered transcription service that converts audio recordings into text, supporting multiple languages.

Growing Strong

These Trends are on the way up year over year:

Weaviate is an open-source vector database that revolutionizes how we search for and retrieve information. Unlike traditional databases that rely on exact keyword matches, Weaviate uses vector embeddings to understand the meaning and context behind data, enabling semantic search capabilities that find relevant information based on similarity of concepts rather than just matching words.

Post Quantum Computing

Post-quantum computing refers to the development of cryptographic algorithms that can withstand attacks from quantum computers, which threaten to break many of our current encryption methods. Unlike traditional computers that use bits (0s and 1s), quantum computers leverage quantum bits or "qubits" that can exist in multiple states simultaneously, giving them unprecedented computational power for certain types of problems—particularly those that underpin today's encryption standards.

The urgency around post-quantum cryptography stems from what security experts call "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks, where adversaries collect encrypted data today with plans to decrypt it once quantum computers become powerful enough. This is particularly concerning for sensitive information that needs to remain secure for decades. Organizations like the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are actively developing and standardizing quantum-resistant algorithms to replace vulnerable systems before quantum computers can pose a real threat to global digital security

Grok is an AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk's company xAI, designed to be a more rebellious and less politically correct alternative to other AI assistants. Launched in November 2023, Grok distinguishes itself by having access to real-time information through X (formerly Twitter) and willingly answering "spicy" questions that other AI systems typically reject. The chatbot operates in two modes: "Fun Mode," which delivers witty and sometimes sarcastic responses inspired by "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," and "Regular Mode," which provides more straightforward answers.

What makes Grok stand out in the crowded AI assistant market is its deliberate departure from the cautious approach of competitors like ChatGPT. While most AI companies are working to make their chatbots more politically correct and less likely to generate potentially harmful content, Grok embraces what Musk calls "maximum truth-seeking" and a "rebellious streak." This approach allows users to engage with topics and questions that might be off-limits elsewhere, though critics have noted this can sometimes lead to the spread of inaccuracies or unverified information, particularly about current events
